Look at the properties, not the fields. The fields are protected or private.

Well don't I feel like an idiot? I suppose I just got so fixated on working out how to retrieve the 'file?' member details shown at the top of the Intellisense listing, that I never thought to look more closely at the other members. It does seem a bit odd to me that the fields and their values are exposed to the IDE but are otherwise inaccessible, is there some intrinsic reason for that?

If you want to write a subclass, you need access to the protected members of the superclass.
