Cisco UC backups intermittently failing?

by thysuick » Tue Mar 31, 2015 5:46 am

Hi all,

We're using CompleteFTP for our Unified Communications application backups and are seeing periodic failures on some backup elements; in each case we see log messages similar to below:

WARN SFTPConnection [Session.823:Default Site:username:IPADDR] Connection abruptly closed: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

however on occasion we also see aborts / exceptions with the following stack trace:

EnterpriseDT.Net.Ssh.Routrek.SSHC.SSHException: MAC Error
at Ca8WGdVeV7wHlL67N3I.IMngXKVaCHWhIyvkjcV.l9sC69oCv8r(Byte[] , Byte[] , Int32 , UadVAKhcNHHyWbiIhS5 , Int32 , Gt0ZUGhTdMJcxSXj0ZU )

I've opened a case with Cisco TAC to investigate whether we are hitting a known bug (CSCul44464), however the UC software versions we are running are not explicitly listed as being affected.

Just curious if anyone else is experiencing similar types of SFTP failures specifically with the Unified Communications suite.

Thanks in advance for any information / feedback you can provide.

We've not had anything reported. I would think that if the backup client received an error, it would just retry the transfer?

You'd think so however in this case rather than retrying, the DRS engine simply gives up until the next scheduled backup.

I'm fairly confident that this needs to be addressed by Cisco, but thought I'd put it out here in case someone else had similar experiences.
